Spark Grants
Your idea could change your community for the better. We're here to help you get started.
What is a Spark Grant?
A Spark Grant is a micro-grant of $200–$500 awarded to Greensburg Salem High School students who have an idea (and the drive to follow through on it) to make a real difference in their school or community.
The Flamecrest Foundation is proud to support young community leaders striving to help others.
Who can apply?
Any Greensburg Salem High School student in grades 9–12 for the 2026/2027 school year is eligible to apply. Spark Grants can also be applied toward Senior Community Service projects.
While you do not need past experience or an in-depth initial plan, you will need to demonstrate that you are willing to follow your project through to completion within an agreed upon timeframe.
What are we looking for?
We fund projects that address a real need and make a tangible difference in the lives of others in the community. "Community" in this context can be anything from your school to the greater Greensburg-area and beyond.
A strong Spark Grant project
- ✓ Solves a problem that real people actually experience
- ✓ Directly benefits others in a tangible way
- ✓ Is something you genuinely care about
- ✓ Is realistic and achievable within a reasonable timeframe
Projects that are primarily cosmetic, personal in benefit, or don't address a meaningful community need are not likely to be funded. If you are unsure whether your idea qualifies, submit it anyway; the worst we can say is no, and we will always tell you why.
How it works
We've kept the process as simple as possible. Here's what to expect:
Submit your idea
Fill out our short application form. We only ask for the basics: who you are, a brief description of your idea, how much you're requesting, and who will support you. It takes less than ten minutes.
We review it
Our team reviews every application. We are looking for ideas with heart and real-world impact. If your project isn't quite what we're looking for, we'll let you know with an honest response. You will always be invited to try again if you have a new or improved idea.
A short video call
If your idea moves forward, we will invite you to a 15-minute video call. This is a conversation, not an interview. We want to hear you talk about your project, understand what you need, and make sure we can help you succeed.
Funding decision
After the call, we will make our funding decision and be in touch. If approved, we will present an offer and discuss stipulations for funding.
After you are funded
We ask funded students to document their project as it progresses: a few photos, receipts for any purchases, and a short written reflection when it's complete. This helps us share your story with the community and show others what's possible.
Ready to apply?
If you have an idea that you are ready to pitch to us, we'd love to hear it.
